Chemistry 0245 Per Request

Crystal asked about the Chemistry:CK 0245.

This is 100 questions about Chemistry or something I know very little about.
Here is information about this test:

So far 5,873 people have taken this test, this number is not broken down into first or second time test takers. These people have a median score of 159 with the 25 percentile at 147 and the 75 percentile at 172. Test variance is somewhat low at 6.3. Compare that to the math:ck which is at 7.3.

What about the actual scores. For this I have a limited supply. And oddly enough quite a few people received a 182 scaled score in Jun of 2011.

Scores are:
155 = 62%
152 = 50%
182 = 80% x 3
162 = 57%

Well good luck out there.

Praxis 0061 — Ouch

I took the Praxis 0061 Math Content Knowledge and wow that is a tough test. I am good at being able to study and learn. But I got my tush kicked on this one. I was hoping for a score of 140 Math CK.

My state you need a 121. I might have gotten that. So now I get to sit and wait for 24 days to see if I passed. I do wish they were faster.

The Election and Teacher Jobs

For my take on the state of the elections and teaching jobs and how they are intertwined you need to read here:

http://www.planetisaac.com/2012/04/19/lack-of-teacher-jobs/

The bottom line is this year will be bad, next year will be better.
I know people will disagree with me because of emotional ties to certain people but in the end I think you will have to agree I am right.

Have a good day.

Math 0061

This is for the most part, I think, the most diffcult test out there. The scores are always the lowest. Now that said the passing rate for 2006 was 70.9%. Compare that to Engglish CK at 87.1% passing rate and 89.6 for El. Ed CK. And as a comparison 76.7% of MS Math people pass.

Math also has the highest frequancy of scores of 100. You need to get 1/5 of the answers correct to get one point. SO to move from 100 at 9 correct to get 101 you need 10 correct. The cut off score range is 123 in MS to 147 in VA.

More on Math 0061 later.

My MS Science 0439 Praxis Results

Well I am pulling my basic theory correctly. I can pass any praxis test with some studying.

I scored a 159. Median score is 158. My score will qualify me for all but two states.

  • Part 1 – 7 of 9 with average performance 4-6  – Not  bad.
  • Part 2 – 12 of 14  with average performance of 8-12 — Not bad
  • Part 3 – 13 of 22  with average performance of 8-12 — Not bad. Notice a lot of lost points here on average.
  • Part 4 – 11 of 18  with average performance 8-12 — Not bad
  • Part 5 – 14 of 18  with average performance 9-13 — Not bad at all.
  • Part 6 – 7 of 9  with average performance 6-8 — ok
  • Essay – 4 of 18  with average performance 6-10 bad.
Okay what do we learn from this?
1. Most people do not study enough of Physical Sciences.
2. Essay are not that important. I still had another 10 points to go down.
3. Essay people do not score well on at all.

Middle School Science Averages 0439

Once last comment on Middle School Science Praxis 0439 test.

Averages. This is perhaps the most telling. I have a total of 29 sample scores.

According to ETS the median score is 158 with the 25 percentile at 147 and the 75 percentile at 170.

So

  • 25% = 147 scaled score
  • 50% = 158 scaled score
  • 75% = 170 scaled score

What do I come up with on the 29 sample scores I have. Please remember none of these people failed the test. A person may have taken it 10 times and only shows one score.

For an average score of 164.31

Multi-Choice = 61.45 out of 90 or 68.28%

Constructed Response = 11 out of 18 or 61.11%

Now when the scores are weight 75% and 25% the percentage is 66.5%

Therefore 164.31 = 66.5%

Interesting numbers.

Why So Long

Here is a question that I have had for awhile. Why does it take so long to get the test results back?

It is not like they are not overnighted to ETS. A day or so to count them. Verify they have all the test books. Run the tests through the machines would take a another  day or so. Run an application to compile all the scores and match with the right person and the right account. One day for GP. Three days just to verify everything and coffee breaks.

The second weekend to do some more stuff. Two weeks later scores posted.

Am I missing something.

What Has Surprised Me The Most

The variableness of the scores. You can get a high percentage and not get a scaled score to reflect that data. Likewise the lowest percentage correct is not the lowest scaled score.

So when Praxis means there is a standard error of measurement. They are not kidding. And that standard is enough to not allow you to pass.

So the middle school sciecne see scores below has a SEM (standard error of measurement) of 6. And a 2.3 points on the essay which means you can have an 18 point variable in your score. At that point why bother grading? Remember we are on a 100 point scale, so that is almost 1/5 of the test.

Praxis Raw Scaled Scores 0439

Here are many scores from the 0439 over a period of time.

THe data here is rather simple.  The letters behind the Date and Scaled score mean nothing, other than I had to format GradeKeeper in this format.

One huge assumption: every single test had 108 points to the test. This is 90 for MC and 18 for CR. Remember there may be questions that are not scored, this are test question that are new and are undergoing review.

  • Date Taken: The date the test was taken.
  • Score Scaled. This is the actual Scaled Score
  • WGT – Is the Wighted Percent. 75% for MC 25% for CR
  • Multi Choice = The raw points for multi choice answers
  • Const R = The raw points for constructed response
  • Raw Score = The total of raw scores.

You will notice some really odd scoring and some varaince on the test from date to date. There is a SEM (standard error of measurement) of 6 on this test which means a +/- 6 or a range of 12.

Praxis 0011 Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Score 191

Here is a scaled score of 191 on the 0011 Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. I do not personally know anyone who has taken this test. So thanks to the web who sent this from PA.

From ETS:

The Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment test is designed for prospective teachers of students in the elementary grades. Examinees typically have completed a bachelor’s degree program in elementary/middle school education or have prepared themselves through some alternative certification program.

The test questions cover the breadth of material a new teacher needs to know. The questions assess knowledge of both principles and processes. Some of the questions assess basic understanding of curriculum planning, instructional design, and assessment of student learning; many pose particular problems that teachers routinely face in the classroom; and many are based on authentic examples of student work. Some of the questions concern general issues, but the majority are set in the context of the subject matters most commonly taught in elementary school: reading and language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, arts, and physical education.

This test may contain some questions that will not count toward your score.

Okay now that we have that there are six sections.

  • Sect 1: 31/38 = 81.58%
  • Sect 2: 19/22 = 86.36%
  • Sect 3: 11/11 = 100.00%
  • Sect 4: 9/11 = 81.82%
  • Sect 5: 9/11 = 81.82%
  • Sect 6: 16/17 = 94.12%
  • Totals 95/110 = 86.36% = Scaled 191

Median Score is 177 with 168-185 of the middle 50%.

BTW Many more are coming.
